더 그레잇 컬렉션은 금년 마지막 전시로 임소담의 개인전 «응달»을 선보입니다. 회화, 드로잉, 세라믹에 따른 매체를 자유로이 넘나들며, 공간에 대한 탁월한 감각을 기반으로 순수 조형을 탐구해온 작가 임소담은 «응달»전을 통해 신작 세라믹 조각 20여 점을 소개합니다.

«응달»은 작가의 집에 대한 기억과 그 주변부의 도상이 드러내는 시 지각적 내러티브를 주요하게 다루었습니다. 실제로 80년대 여관을 운영하던 관리 공간이자 옛 주거공간이었던 양옥의 공간적 인상에서 시작한 출품 작업들은 단순히 집의 외형이나 향수뿐만이 아니라 우리의 감각이 상기하는 상상적, 조형적인 면모를 지니고 있습니다.

“때로는 과거에 대한 생각이 형태를 만들고, 때로는 형태가 새로운 생각을 데려오기도 했다. 나는 안과 밖이 만나는 그 보이지 않는 자리에서 현재가 연속되는 것을 보고 있다.”

특히 이번 전시의 참여작품들은 ‘그려진 조각’이자 ‘부피가 있는 그림’으로 입체의 운동적 환영을 통해 작품의 형상에 내재된 내면적인 리듬과 성찰을 발견할 수 있습니다. 전시장 곳곳에 비일상적인 공간을 투사하는 조각들은 그 기시감과 동시에 공감각적인 인상을 변모시키며 각기 다른 기억에 대한 환기로서 경험을 독려합니다. 이번 임소담 개인전 «응달»은 조각의 내부와 외부를 연결하는 지각의 메타포로서 인지와 본능, 나아가 그에 따른 깨달음이 마치 응달 속에 드러나는 일련의 존재들로서 각인 될 수 있기를 희망합니다.

The Great Collection is delighted to introduce Lim sodam’s solo exhibition «In The Shade» as the final exhibition of this year. Lim has been pursuing plastic arts with skills to handle various mediums and a good spatial sense. This exhibition will feature a hybrid ceramic series to show her raw, anthropomorphic sculptures inspired from home.

«In The Shade» presents a visual and perceptual narrative of her memoir of home, especially what surrounded the concept of home in our mind. The work’s first exhibition space was a Western-style house that used to be an old residential space as well as a maintenance space for an inn back in the 80s. Lim’s work takes inspiration from the space not only the figure of the house or the nostalgia of home but also the visual and imaginative aspects rising from our senses.

Participated works could be regarded as drawn sculptures as well as paintings with volume, where the sculptures present an illusion that exposes their internal rhythm and introspection.

These ceramic sculptures project very unusual spaces at various places in the exhibition room, transforming the whole space’s impression and calling attention to our own experience of home.

As a metaphor of a perception that connects the inside and outside of sculpture, «In The Shade» hopes to represent cognition, instinct, and the resulting realization as a series of beings revealed in the shade.

임소담은 주변의 익숙함을 낮 선 인상으로 해석하며, 구상을 기반으로 추상적 접근을 도모해왔습니다. 주요 개인전으로 2011년 «rainforest» 상상마당을 시작으로, 2015년«Eclipse» 갤러리 스케이프, 2016년 «새, 장» 온그라운드2, 2018년 «Shape of Memories» 프로젝트 스페이스 사루비아 다방 및 40여 회의 그룹 전 이력이 있으며, 캐나다 밴프 아티스트 레지던시 및 금호창작스튜디오 8기 입주작가로 참여, 이외 경기도미술관과 국립현대미술관 등의 작품 소장 이력이 있습니다.

Lim sodam has been interacting between materials essentially forming shape between painting and sculpture. Lim participated in solo exhibitions «Rainforest» (Sangsangmadang, 2011), «Eclipse» (Gallery Skape, 2015), «The Bird and the Cage» (Onground 2, 2016), and «Shape of Memories» (Project Space SARUBIA, 2018), as well as in forty group exhibitions. She selected artist for Canada Banff and Kuemho artist in residency program. Her works were collected by the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art and MMCA.
