권아람 개인전 «프리즈»는 매체와 뉴미디어를 주로 다루어 온 작가 권아람의 새로운 조각 시리즈와 공간 특정적인 설치 작품을 소개한다. 이번 전시 및 신작의 제목인 ‘프리즈’는 화면을 정지시키는 영상효과 프리즈 프레임(freeze frame)에서 기인한 용어로서 시스템 에러로 화면이 멈춘 상태를 의미한다.

권아람은 동시대 미디어의 현상과 그 사회적 영향력을 골자로 다층적인 디지털 파생 형태들이 미치는 의미전달을 모색해왔다. 이번 개인전에서는 주변 환경을 투사하는 일련의 조각적 사물 연작을 통해 관객으로 하여금 지속적으로 주변의 현상을 환기하도록 한다. 뿐만 아니라 전시 «프리즈»는 작가의 작품세계에서 주요하게 다뤄온 내부와 외부의 관계, 허구와 현실을 잇는 경계에서 발생하는 정형할 수 없는 이야기들은 기존의 고착화된 장면을 거부하고, 하나의 오류이자 해프닝으로 존재하도록 한다. 이는 작품이 지니는 물질성뿐만 아니라 생각과 반응이 지니는 물질성을 형태와 무게로 치환하여 소개한다. 이는 조각과 사물에 관한 다른 차원의 관점을 제안하며 영상의 스크린과 사물의 존재 사이에서 유영하는 흥미로운 오류와 연합을 탐구한다.

Freeze, the 4th solo exhibition of Ahram Kwon, delights to present her new sculpture series with site-specific installation at The Great Collection Seoul. Kwon has been pursuing multilayered communication through various digital media forms that are related with contemporary media affairs and its impact on society. The title of the exhibition came from a digital effect called freeze frame. It means a still screen caused by a system error. Particularly, this solo exhibition introduces new sculptures that reflect surrounding images in the gallery through mirror and colored glasses. It eventually ventilates for viewers to experience a moment revealing our capture of impression. This series also explores the relationship between inside and outside and between reality and fantasy. This narrative defies traditional scenes and remains as an episode of communication error. Freeze would like to share another level of sculptural perspective that brings conflict and union between the screen and object.

권아람은 매체적 특성과 본질에 따른 직관을 영상과 설치작업으로 주로 다룬다. 대표 개인전으로는 «납작한 세계/Flat Matters» 원앤제이 플러스원, «부유하는 좌표/Drifting Coordinates» 갤러리 도스, «불화하는 말들/Words in Dissonance» 세움 아트 스페이스 등이 있고, 주요 단체전으로는 «열지 않는 전시 및 엑세스» 난지미술창작스튜디오, «가능한 최선의 세계» 플랫폼 엘 컨템포러리, «불안한 사물들» 서울시립미술관 남서울 미술관 외 40여회 전시가 있으며, «Szczecin European Film Festival» 스체친 유럽영화제 초대 상영, «International Streaming Festival for Audio Visual Art», Het Nutshuis, 헤이그, «Video Art Festival Miden 2011», Amfia’s square, 칼라마타, 그리스 등 다수의 국제 영화제에 출품이력이 있다.

Ahram Kwon has been pursuing new media and installations based on current issues through insightful approaches. Selected major solo exhibitions including «Flat Matters» at ONE & J Plus One, «Words in Dissonance» at Seum Art Space, group exhibitions including «The Best World Possible» at Platform L Contemporary Art Center, «Not Open Exhibition/ Access[s]» at Nanji Studio of SeMA, «The Unstable Objects» at Seoul Museum of Art and others. Participated in international film screenings at Szczecin European Film Festival, International Streaming Festival for Audio Visual Art at Het Nutshuis and Video Art Festival Miden 2011 in Amfia’s square at Kalamata.
