더 그레잇 컬렉션은 홍승혜 개인전 «사람들»을 통해 그간 작가가 지속적으로 추구해왔던 유기적 기하학 시리즈의 일환인 신작 부조(relief) 및 평면작품을 소개합니다. 옛 신사장 여관, 양옥 공간을 전시장으로 활용한 더 그레잇 컬렉션에서 선보이는 이번 전시는 작가의 순수 추상적 도형들이 점차적으로 인물 혹은 물건의 형상을 갖추기 시작한 모습의 작품들을 선보일 예정입니다.

«사람들»은 우리 주변의 형제, 자매, 친구, 연인에 이르는 인간이 맺을 수 있는 다양한 관계의 다이어그램을 인물 픽토그램 조형물로 구현함으로써 그들이 형성하는 거리, 배열에 따른 일련의 관계적 내러티브를 함의하고 있습니다. 특히 반 입체, 곧 부조 시리즈는 평면을 기반으로 한 입체화 과정을 드러냄으로써 작가 고유의 매체적 특징인 ‘화가의 조각’적 면모를 나타냅니다.

이번 전시 홍승혜 «사람들»은 더 그레잇 컬렉션이 추구하는 살롱으로서의 전시공간을 통해 삶의 시간이 깃든 옛 양옥공간이 상기시키는 일상적 인물의 관계들을 투사하고, 은유 하는 특별한 시간을 소개하고자 합니다.

The Great Collection introduces the artist Hong Seung-Hye’s solo exhibition «Human Nature», featuring new works of relief and flat surface that are part of her ongoing project series called Organic Geometry. To be presented in The Great Collection’s exhibition space that utilizes the former shrine inn and WWII Era architecture style homes, the exhibition will feature works in which the artist's pure abstract figures have gradually begun to shape people or objects.

Through a human pictogram sculpture, Human Nature embodies a diagram of various relationships among humans around us—ranging from brothers and sisters to friends and lovers. In particular, the semi-dimensional relief series reveals the process of three-dimensionalizing a flat surface, representing the artist's unique media feature called “artist’s sculpture.”

The exhibition Hong Seung-Hye «Human Nature» presents a meaningful time of projection and metaphor of ordinary human relationships that an old house space evokes, in alignment with The Great Collection's notion of "exhibition space as a salon.”

홍승혜 작가는 1986년부터 현재까지 20여회 개인전을 열었고 다수의 국내외 기획 단체전에 참여했습니다. 1997년 국제갤러리에서 열린 개인전 «유기적 기하학»을 시작으로 컴퓨터 픽셀의 구축을 기반으로 한 실재 공간의 운영에 깊은 관심을 보여왔습니다. 1997년 토탈 미술상, 2007년 이중섭 미술상을 수상했으며, 현재 서울과학기술대학교 조형예술과 교수로 재직 중입니다.

Hong Seung-hye has held more than 20 solo exhibitions since 1986 and participated in many domestic and international group exhibitions. Starting with her solo exhibition «Organic Geometry» (Kukje Gallery, 1997), Hong has shown a keen interest in artistic manipulation of the real space through images in computer pixels. She has received the Total Art Award in 1997 and the Yi Joong Sup Award in 2007, and she is now a professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Seoul National University of Science and Technology
