더 그레잇 컬렉션의 두 번째 전시 «허밍»은 추상회화작가 김혜나의 새로운 회화 및 드로잉을 소개한다. 전시 제목 «허밍»은 호흡과 공명을 통해 표현되는 인간이 지닌 가장 기초적인 음악적 정서를 일컫는다. 의도하지 않았지만 감정이 새어 나오는 이 일련의 사운드조각, 허밍은 어쩌면 누구나 가지고 있는 고유한 음악적 감수성(Soul)으로 볼 수 있다.

오랜 시간 지켜보게 되는 풍경은 눈으로 읽혀지는 것 이상의 복잡한 감정을 만들어요. 저녁에 가까운 시간의 공기, 그 안에 녹아 있는 온도, 또 그 안을 감싸고 있는 따스한 향기는 머릿속에 온갖 어린 시절의 풍경을 불러내 순간의 이야기, 극심한 향수와 그날 밤의 꿈을 그려내지요.

The title «Humming» refers to the most basic sense of music in human beings expressed in breathing and resonance. A series of sound snippets that unintendedly oozes with emotions, a humming may be a unique musical soul that everyone has.

A scene gazed long enough produces complex emotions beyond what eyes can see. The air near the evening, the temperature melted into that, and the warm smell wrapping the inside evoke memories of all kinds of childhood scenes and gives you such a strong nostalgia and the night’s dream.

김혜나는 자연광이 비추는 오전부터 해질녘 전까지를 작업시간으로 삼아 그림을 그리기에 빛에 민감하게 반응하는 회화의 색감과 질감, 붓의 리듬과 공간적 톤을 투사한다. 그것들은 어떤 은유적인 영역을 상기시키지만 동시에 예민한 심상을 동반하는데 흥미로운 점은 하나의 풍경, 계절의 색채를 너머 그 환경의 온도, 향기, 사운드와 같은 신체적인 감각을 연상시킨다.

칸딘스키의 표현처럼 추상적인 것에 존재하는 예술은 무한한 시간 속에서 구체화하도록 정해진 것인지도 모르지만, 가장 물질적인 이미지의 심상과 비물질적인 감각을 동시에 포함하는 김혜나의 회화는 우리가 유추하고 직관적으로 상상할만한 이미지를 유발하지만 어떤 특정적인 시즌이 동반하는 촉감과 기억, 공기를 구체화하고있다.

Because Hyena works from the morning (when there is daylight) until the evening (right before the sunset), she projects onto her works a sense of color, texture, brush rhythm, and spatial tone that are sensitive to light. They convey something metaphorical and yet at once accompanies a sensitive mental picture. An interesting thing to note is that they evoke something beyond just a scene and a seasonal color: the physical senses of that environment such as its temperature, scent, and sound.

As in Kandinsky’s expression, perhaps an art that exists in the abstract is destined to be embodied in infinite time. Featuring both the most material of a mental picture and the most non-material of senses, Hyena Kim’s paintings evoke images we would infer and intuitively imagine while also materializing the textures, memories, and ambience that a specific season accompanies.
