Exhibition Introduction

Interdisciplinary Art Performance, Hymns to the Night (L'heure Bleue), draws inspiration from the poem "Hymns to the Night," which contains a message of recovery from the sadness of losing a lover as experienced by the 18th-century German romantic poet Novalis. The poet uses his real-life longing for his lover as a metaphor to express his desire for the emotional recovery of European society, which was enduring a historical period of religion-based war at the time. This project story was inspired by the poem's spirit and seeks to bring hope and restoration from the long night of isolation brought into our daily lives by the pandemic.
The performance's subtitle, "L'heure Bleue (time between dog and wolf)," refers to the time from just before sunset until dark, the time between day and night. Just as things that were invisible to us in the dark become visible as time goes by, in this work, the night is a time to imagine and sense the time beyond eternity and explore the possibility of recovery.

In this work, which provides performances and exhibitions as two types of experiences, the T4 space is an open stage and an 'inter-space' where you can experience different art genres in one area.
The performance, which runs for about 70 minutes, consists of six plays with themes ranging from sadness to recovery. The main focus is on the process of the three beings (Night, Light, and Dawn) becoming united through confrontation and conflict. Night, Light, and Dawn are the words referring to the human point of view (portrayed by the actor), and the body refers to heaven's point of view (portrayed by the dancer). Each character switches to create a multi-layered experience. By expressing this series of psychological maturation processes through the combination of technical elements and sensory experiences, this work has been designed to allow the audience to reflect on the meaning of recovery.
