존재하는 모든 사물은 장소 안에 존재한다. 만약 그것들이 장소를 빼앗긴다면 그것의 존재를 정의하기란 불가능하다.

우리가 공간의 안 혹은 밖에 머무는 것은 단순히 장소와 위치에 대한 것을 뜻하지 않는다. 그것은 삶의 터전을 뜻하며, 그곳으로부터 세상과 만나는 관계가 시작되고, 궁극적으로 우리가 누구인지 존재적으로 질문한다.

전시 «X 라는 이름의 아레나 : 화성의 내러티브»는 도심에 대한 역사적, 심리적, 조형적 관점을 작가 강은혜, 김도균, 김신욱을 통해 소개한다. 이 제목은 불특정한 무명의 존재, 약칭 ‘엑스’를 고대 로마의 원형경기장이자 야외극장인 ‘아레나’로 은유했다. 전시에서 아레나는 불특정 다수의 사람이 모여 희/비극을 공유하는 공간이자 희노애락이 깃든 장소로서 역할을 상기한다.

이는 도시 화성이 지니는 복합적인 역사와 정체성의 일면을 유형학적으로 소개함과 동시에 전시장 내 공간을 재발견한다. 강은혜는 전방위적인 전시 공간을 아우르며 선의 교차와 중첩을 통한 공감각적 관계와 심리적 긴장을 나타낸다. 김도균은 화성의 유의미한 랜드마크 남양성모성지와 매향리의 역사적 인상과 과거 테니스장이 있었던 로얄 엑스의 4층 변모과정을 미학적으로 기록했다. 김신욱은 도심 화성의 주변부와 경계에서 ‘발생한 풍경’을 통해 장소와 영역이 지닌 정체성을 모색했다.

When we stay in and out of space, it doesn't simply refer to our place and location. Instead, it means our life of living, starting to meet this world through a relationship, ultimately questioning who we are.

ARENA Named X: The Narrative of Hwaseong presents an urban neighborhood as a poetic being viewed through participating artists Eunhye Kang, kdk, and Shinwook Kim.

The exhibition titled ARENA Named X is a metaphor of a poetic being where an amphitheater in a metropolitan. The place of sharing comedy and tragedy and highs and lows of life with unspecified people. It introduces the compulsive history and identity of Hwaseong typologically, navigating and reinventing this space of the gallery.

배우 김현빈, 박상하, 조은데, 음악가 송요셉이 참여한 라이브 퍼포먼스 ‹그 찰나의 순간›은 지금, 여기 존재할지 모르는 불특정한 장소에서 불특정한 존재로 부유하는 감정과 정서를 표현했다.

궁극적으로 전시 «X 라는 이름의 아레나 : 화성의 내러티브»는 어떤 장소에 거주하며 시간의 지평에 존재하는 특정할 수 없는 인물들과 그 인물들이 형성한 삶의 터전을 장소로서 해석하고 은유해보고자 했다. 나아가 이 장소가 부여하는 작금의 의미를 관객들이 경험해 볼 수 있기를 희망한다.

Eunhye Kang presents the relation of synesthesia and psychological tension throughout thread installation. kdk aesthetically archives the momentum of a historical impression at The Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Namyang, Maehyang-ri as a landmark of Hwaseong. He also typologically documented the space transforming of the Royal X tennis court. Shinwook Kim navigates an identity of the locality area of Edgelands through detection landscape.

The live performance The Smallest Moment presents express floating beings who are unnamed souls may exist around our lives with participating performers Hyunbin Kim, Sangha Park, Eunde Cho, and a musician SEP.

Eventually, ARENA Named X illustrates unnamed beings who live beyond our time. Those nameless souls may create a home where we hope to imagine for undefined value in our lives.
